Sunset on the Pedernal

Sunset over the Pedernal highlights Georgia O’Keeffe’s private mountain. She said "God told me if I painted it enough, I could have it." She certainly painted it enough to claim ownership, and she has inspired others to do so. Georgia O’Keeffe died at the age of 98 on March 6, 1986. She requested that she be cremated and her ashes scattered on top of Pedernal. Tectonic movement created the Pedernal uplift which is a fitting memorial to O’Keeffe.
