Mysteries-of-the-Desert Southwestern Mysticism
Mysteries-of-the-Desert acrylic painting
The desert is a harsh environment, but many animals and man have adapted to these conditions. Well-preserved skulls are not an unusual discovery although most of the smaller bones have been scattered by predators. Many painters have included them in their compositions, but Georgia O’Keeffe is one of the most noted painters utilizing these motifs. Many of the world’s major religions have arisen in desert environments where the mind is not encumbered by societal interactions. Visions, hallucinations, and out of body experiences are often associated with such harsh and isolated existence.
In this paintingI have attempted to incorporate an aura of the unexplained with the skull of a desert big horn sheep.
