Hummingbirds are some of the most beautiful and fascinating birds that we feed. The quick darting flights, the ability to hover while feeding, and the brilliant colors make them garden favorites. In our area the black chinned are the first to arrive. They are well-behaved, and frequently feed when you are only a few feet away. The other species arrive later, but the atmosphere changes as soon the rufous arrive. They are aggressive and are not willing to share the feeder with anyone. Even when not feeding they will often sit on a nearby branch and chase away the others when they try to feed.
