Escaping Spirit

Many Native American and Mid Eastern rugs, sand paintings and paintings have a small open space in the surrounding border. This space is there to allow the evil spirits to leave the rug or painting. I have left an opening in the surrounding border of this painting to allow the good or brave spirit to escape the evil spirits or underworld. In this work the good spirit is a symbolic warrior, and the evil spirits are the dark objects within the painting. This painting may be representational of many religions around the world where doing good works results in your escape from darkness and evils of death. This is meant to be a painting of hope and success.
